TOFC U16B vs Surrey United
Final Score: 4 - 1 for Surrey
First Half/ :Scoring Highlights
The TOFC U16 Boys played Surrey United on Saturday at Cloverdale’s Athletic Park. It was TOFC’s first away game and their third game of the BCSPL mini-season. The boys were looking for their first win after a strong effort in the previous weekend’s match against a much stronger Mountain United. In the first part of the game, the boys played well, controlling the ball on a wet west coast pitch. In the tenth minute, Kelowna’s Ayo Fashanu crossed the ball to Kelowna’s David Denton-Protsack who struck the ball past Surrey’s keeper for the game’s first goal. As the half progressed, Surrey United came on and tied the game.
Second half Scoring Highlights
The second half saw Surrey take control of the scoreboard tallying three unanswered goals. While the TOFC boys showed some positive signs –rotating ball effectively- they were not able to mount any sustained pressure. The game ended 4-1 for the home side.

TOFC U16B vs Mountain FC
Final Score: 3 - 2 for Mountain
The Thompson Okanagan U16 boys lost to Mountain United 3-2 on Sunday in their second game of the newly formed High Performance League’s mini-season. The BCSPL replaces Super Y as BC’s top youth soccer league. The TOFC boys were acutely aware of their opponent’s reputation. After all, the Mountain squad, consisting of many BC Provincial team players, had won their first game 8-0 the previous weekend. But nerves were settled and confidence was regained early in the game when, at the 2 minute mark, midfielder Cole Hooper’s (Kamloops) long shot dropped behind Mountain’s keeper into the back of the net. Mountain then tied the game at the 15 minute mark: a hard laces drive from an indirect free kick skirted the wall and a rebound beat the TOFC keeper.
Second half Scoring Highlights
Equal possession prevailed through the first half and into the second until, seemingly out of nowhere, a Mountain midfielder flicked the ball wide and a winger’s volley reached its goal 58 minutes into the match. However, the underdogs did not relent and were rewarded with a goal ten minutes later. A strong initial run by right midfielder Ayo Fashanu (Kelowna) cracked Mountain’s back line, but it was forward Isaac Walton (Salmon Arm) who broke through and finished with a low shot past the keeper. Unfortunately, luck was not on the home team’s side and the hope of a tie was dashed with two minutes remaining: a hand ball in the eighteen-yard-box was called against TOFC, a penalty kick was awarded, and Mountain went on to win the game. The TOFC boys should consider the game a victory in spirit and move forward with well-earned confidence.
