TOFC Super Y League U15Boys and U16 Boys Win Gold

TOFC U15 Boys

1st Game

The game against Kamloops started with a great effort from Jesse Nanci culminating in a long shot placed top shelf.  Ayo Fashanu got the second goal on an interesting corner kick which the goalie had trouble handling.  The final goal started with great digging in the corner by Jesse Nanci who won the ball and passed it to Dylan Wagner who assisted Dom Haynes inscoring the final goal. (3-0).

2nd Game

Cole Kingzett of Penticton began the scoring in the second game against the Calgary Blizzard with a penalty kick.  TOFC played a large part of the second half with 10 men after Chris Pires received his second yellow.  Dylan Wagner put in the second to secure the 2-0 win.

3rd Game

TOFC's only goal in the 1-1 tie against the Prince George Kodiaks was scored on a pass from Ayden Ledding to Dave Denton-Protsack (one of the regular goal keepers).  Again TOFC played 10 men after Ayden got his second yellow in the second half.   The boys managed to hold on to the tie and finish a solid first in their pool.

4th Game

The boys began the scoring early in the semi-final game against North Vancouver when Brody Osborne of Kamloops set up a header by Cole Kingzett.  Cole then set up Ayo Fashanu for the second goal.  Ayo also put in the third goal.  Jesse Nanci increased the score to 4-0 before the end of the half.  Although North Van managed to score once after the half, the TOFC boys answered when Ayo completed his hat trick.  Brody capped off the 6-1 win with a great top corner free kick from outside the 18 yard box in the last minute of play.

Final Game

The final was a rematch against Prince George.  Ayo set up Cole, who finished nicely to open scoring.  Brody passed to Ayo who put the ball in the net to increase our lead to 2-0.  Dylan popped in the final goal to end the gold medal game with a 3-0 win. Gold for the TOFC U15 Boys!

TOFC U16 Boys

This weekend the TOFC U16 Super Y League Boys followed up their recent gold medal at The South Burnaby Soccer Club tournament with another great showing at the Lake Country 'Icebreaker' tournament. Playing in a U18 division comprising of the very strongest U18 teams from around The Okanagan Valley and beyond, the younger Y League boys had to be at their very best in order to compete. The group stages saw the TOFC team face U18 teams from Vernon, Salmon Arm and Squamish. A comfortable 2-0 win over Vernon (both goals from Robin Whittaker), was followed by a very hard fought 1-0 victory over a very strong Shuswap team (goal scored by James Taylor). With qualification to the semi final stages already secured, TOFC showed tremendous character to come from behind three times in a bad tempered game against Squamish....final score 3-3 (goals from Matt McHugh....2, and Andrew Stevenson)

The semi final saw the return of some great soccer as TOFC faced local rivals Kelowna Utd U18. In a tense and exciting game, both teams squandered good chances as they played out a 0-0 tie, however, it was the TOFC boys who kept their nerve to come out on top 5-4 in a penalty shoot out. In the final, the TOFC team faced a rematch against a highly motivated, and very good, Salmon Arm team......but it was once again the younger Y League TOFC team who kept their discipline and shape to record a memorable 1-0 victory (winning goal from Robin Whittaker, special mention for stand in keeper Brendan Melin)

All in all, an excellent gold medal performance from this group of young players who have once again proved themselves to be one of the most competitive youth soccer teams to emerge from this region in many years.
