TOFC U15 Girls strike Gold in Vegas

The U15 girls returned this past weekend victorious from the Mayor's Cup in Las Vegas. The team had a solid record of 3 wins and a tie in round robin play with victories over teams from Las Vegas, Utah and Idaho and a tie against an aggressive squad from Chicago, Illinois.  This record qualified the Y team to play in the final, meeting the Bracket 1 top seed team from Oregon. During the tournament the Okanagan girls racked up 13 goals for and gave up just one in five matches. It was a great team effort with balanced scoring and strong team defence. The team was able to get off to strong starts scoring the opening goals early on, making it difficult for their opposition to mount an attack. When the opposition did push forward TOFC's defence was able to win back possession of the ball leading to quick counter-attacks on offense. In the final match the team was again able to get off to a quick start and were up by 3 goals at the half. Oregon came out hard in the second half but could not get anything past the team's stoic defence. A fourth goal in the second half deflated the Oregon team and rallied TOFC to finish strong. In the final game, the team was inspired by parents, players and coaches from other visiting Kelowna teams whose attendance was greatly appreciated by the girls and their coaching staff.
